The Criminal Court Practice Course is a three day, practically orientated course which is designed to assist the junior lawyer how to deal with basic tasks of criminal law in the Magistrates Courts. It is focussed on showing the delegate how to perform everyday functions that lawyers may encounter with criminal matters in the lower courts. Modules will thus include Court Etiquette, Bail Applications, Remands, First Appearances, Guilty Pleas and Discovery processes., amongst others. It does not deal with trial related matters as this is covered in other courses we offer.
The course will include presentations on the various modules as well as practical exercises where the delegates will get an opportunity to practice what they have learnt. Please note that although a certificate will be provided upon successful completion of the course, this is not an accredited course, and is purely skills-based training.
This course is ideally suited for the junior lawyer who has either little or no experience, but wishes to know how the criminal courts work and how to perform tasks generally experienced by criminal lawyers. Law graduates who have completed their degree but who have not begun employment will also find the course useful in staring their law career.
